Five Strand Heirloom Pearls for Desirae
Desirae's mother-in-law gifted her pearls on her wedding day, a five strand piece that wasn't a fit for Desirae's day-to-day life. Her mother-in-law understood right away that the style wasn't quite Desirae's, and gave her the green light to rework it into something she'd love to wear.
Desirae wanted to honor the original five strand design while making the piece wearable. We kept the choker length and the five row pearl structure, then restrung her glowy pearls on silk thread and replaced the original stone sections with five rounded yellow gold stations, each one scattered and burnished with petite diamonds. The smallest stations connect to a curb chain at the back, finished with an oversized lobster clasp for an easy, adjustable choker.
The five gold stations keep the rhythm of the original strands, with more contemporary sculptural presence. The choker reads as a clear evolution of the piece Desirae was gifted rather than a departure from it. We love designing with inherited pearls in our NYC jewelry renovation studio, and this project was such a pleasure to work on. Thank you Desirae!
