Testimonial
"The whole project started with a single piece: my grandfather's wedding band from 1948. He wore the band for 40 years and then my father wore it for 25 years. Both of their wedding dates were engraved on the inside and the ring had been worn so much, both dates had almost been worn away. My parents gave it to me and my fiancé last year, expecting us to just resize it for him, but I actually wanted it for myself! I've loved it my whole life, but never dreamed of getting to wear it myself – I have tiny hands and both my father and grandfather have absolute baseball mitts for hands."
"When I went looking for a jeweler to work with in resizing and reimagining the piece, I found Spur. I spent hours on their instagram and website, reading story after story of how they created heirlooms out of heirlooms – and the rest is history."
"I got to spend an immense amount of time sorting through my childhood/teenage things at my parents' house to find the other pieces that went into the rings and my fiancé's family contributed a piece, too, once they heard our plans. As a result, our rings are made entirely from all the love that came before us. It's an incredibly emotional thing to realize when we take our vows, we're taking them (and symbolizing them on our hands) with the incredible foundation both families have given us."
"I sent my dad a photo of our new rings the night we received them, thanking him for trusting us to create something new, and all he could say was, 'I can’t speak.'"
"This process has created so much more than jewelry for my entire family and we couldn't be more grateful."

TESTIMONIAL
"After my mom unexpectedly passed away last summer, I knew I wanted to turn this ring into something I would wear and cherish every day. Turning it into an engagement ring and wedding band set, true to my style, was the perfect solution."
"The original ring was my mother’s. My father gave it to her as a gift once they were married. In high school, my mom gifted me the ring to wear for special occasions, but I haven’t worn it since I was a teenager."
"Spur did a truly incredible job taking my and my partner’s loose ideas and turning them into something beautiful, unique, and with clear, special nods to my mom. Spur was communicative during the entire process and handled my mom’s jewelry with great care. "
"I could not have asked for a better experience or a better outcome!"

Jewelry Renovation FAQs
What is jewelry renovation?
Jewelry renovation is the art of creating new fine jewelry from the component parts of jewelry you already have. It is most often sought by people who have inherited fine jewelry they don't wear, or who have jewelry from past relationships or unworn gifts. Fine jewelry is made from fundamentally recyclable materials including diamonds, gemstones, gold, and platinum. Jewelry renovation projects can include resetting heirloom diamonds, melting heirloom gold, working with sentimental components, converting antiques with new findings, and more. Material experience with heirlooms and knowledge of antiques from all eras is necessary for creative problem solving. Each piece presents unique technical constraints that require deep familiarity with how historic jewelry was made. There are many perfect candidates for transformation, each requiring a unique skillset and design sensibility to create a new beautiful and wearable piece of jewelry.
What if I am not in NYC?
We work with clients all over the US. Once you've selected designs and we know which of your pieces we'll be working with, we can prepare an insured FedEx Overnight or 2 Day label for you. We'll send you instructions for how to safely pack and ship your jewelry to us. Please note that we are not working internationally at this time.
What does it cost to renovate jewelry?
We price each custom project individually and present complete pricing with our proposals. Costs vary depending on the type of piece, labor, complexity, and materials involved in your project.
Many of our projects are in the $2000-$7000 range. We have beautiful design concepts under $2000 if you are open to suggestions. We can apply the value of any extra gold or platinum from your original materials towards the cost of your project.
Do I need to know what I want or have design ideas?
Let us inspire you with our designs & ideas you may not have thought of yet. We'd love to know the history of your materials, what you like or dislike about them, and the kinds of jewelry you enjoy wearing. If you have inspiration to share we welcome it, but we don't need it.
We bring a ton of material experience to our designs, we deeply understand what is (and what is not) possible with heirloom materials. This is all we do!
Can I use my own gold to create new jewelry?
Yes! It depends a bit on the design you select, but we can typically melt and alloy your gold to use in your project. We reserve this very specialized offering for projects where the gold itself is extremely sentimental.
Alternatively, our typical process is to group recycle your gold with gold from our other clients and offer you a credit towards your invoice.
